Imagine, if you will, a musical about Harry Potter but with the music of Elton John
We know that there is already a make-shift Harry Potter musical out there but what if we got a real musical with songs from Elton John? How fun would that be?
Elton John is currently the talk of the town because the movie Rocketman, a musical about his life, is getting ready to come out so what if we thought about him writing the music for a musical about Harry Potter? We already have A Very Potter Musical but, to be honest, it is a fun look at the Potter series and not a series exploration of the material.
Now, if we had a serious musical looking at the work by J.K. Rowling? That’d be something amazing. There are so many of us who love theater and this series (which is why Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is such a hit) and so if you made the series into a musical, or at least something that is loosely based on the series, we’d definitely line-up to see it.
That’s maybe the problem. There’s just so much material to go off of that it’d be exceptionally hard to fit everything into one show (even Cursed Child is a two-show excursion). Still, thinking about Elton John writing songs about Harry Potter just seems like a fun time and maybe something the world needs in 2019 to make us just a little bit happier.
He is the man who brought us the Billy Elliot musical and gave us “Circle of Life”.
