Game of Thrones cast reflect on show with touching posts ahead of series finale

With the Game of Thrones finale airing tonight, several cast members are taking to social media to say goodbye to the show, the fans, and the characters they played.

April 17, 2011 seems so, so long ago. It was the date that sparked an enchanting, mysterious, adventurous, fantastic journey for a show that now has a global community of adoring fans. It marked the beginning of Game of Thrones.

And now, eight years and eight seasons later, the show is coming to an end. We’ll be watching at home with wine, tissues, and more wine (perhaps a tribute to Cersei) as we see how the series plays each remaining character out.

As for the cast, they’ve begun a wave of emotional posts on social media to say goodbye to us, the fans, as well as to the characters they were dedicated to for so long. From bittersweet messages to humorous photos, the cast proves that they were just as in love with the show as all of us — even more so.

We’ll start with the Mother of Dragons herself, Emilia Clarke…

Sophie Turner shared a sweet cast photo, along with words about her time as Sansa Stark.

Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth, decided to go with a goofier post — jokingly revealing how she reacted to the end of the series.

John Bradley, who plays Jon Snow’s BFF Samwell Tarly, shared a selfie with the rehearsal schedule for the first season of Game of Thrones.

Raleigh Ritchie looks a lot happier than we’ve seen him recently in season 8 in this selfie of him on set, along with touching words about his time on the show. Also we love that there is such a thing as the Targs team!

We thank the Game of Thrones cast for not only putting on one incredible show, but for being an incredible cast that has constantly shown love and respect for the show’s fandom. These posts are easily proof that we’ve all been touched by this show, and there will never be something quite like it ever again.
