Examining the idea of Ginny Weasley being a Mary Sue: Spoiler alert, she isn’t one

Often, Ginny Weasley is described as being a Mary Sue and sure, but also she isn’t and then there isn’t anything wrong with her being described as such because girls can be good at things.

Ginny Weasley is complex, strong, and she happens to be good at a few things. Those qualities do not instantly make her a Mary Sue. Sure, we’re reclaiming the idea because why can’t women be great at everything? But also, people need to stop labeling characters as such just because they don’t like them.

Ginny has always been a character that many of us could look to and relate to. She had a crush on a famous boy, did anything to get close until she found herself and became someone we could admire. To be quite honest, she’s great and she made sure to look out for herself in the end and that’s something we should all respect.

The reason she’s even seen as a “Mary Sue” is because she is good at sports. Which is just sexist in general because yes, she can be good at sports. That’s perfectly logical. Why does that make her a Mary Sue? Because she gets the boy? It’s just a bit of a mess of an argument and it isn’t fair to her.

Ginny Weasley has gotten a lot of hate throughout the years and we need to start to respect her and her contribution to the world of Harry Potter. Also, she’s a reporter. How cool is that?
