Titans rumors suggest we could see Aqualad and Aquagirl joining the team

After the first season of Titans gave us a new look at some heroes we have rarely if ever seen on our screens, many of us are looking forward to who comes next. And a new rumor suggests it could be Aqualad and Aquagirl.

When Titans premiered on DC Universe, it was a chance for fans of the comics to see many of these characters in a live-action setting for the first time. With a series that has no problem giving us not one, but two Robins and even introducing characters like Hawk and Dove to our screens, we have a lot of expectations going into season 2. And a new rumor circulating suggests we might be in for a treat.

According to We Got This Covered, there is apparently a casting call for the series for a girl between the ages of 13 and 15 who is Mediterranean. The character description simply says, “funny, sarcastic and witty.” This suggests that Titans could be adding Aquagirl, also known as Tula, to the mix. And not just that, but Geeks WorldWide reports that in a Facebook group for fans of the show, there is further speculation that Aqualad could also be entering the fray.

As a fan of DC comics, the addition of Aqualad and Aquagirl would be a great thing for Titans, especially in light of them already adding in Superboy and Jericho, who have both been members of the Titans team in the comics. Adding the sidekicks of Aquaman just feels like it is meant to be. After all, this would be a chance to bring more members of the Titans together in an effort to prove that they are not just sidekicks to the big name superheroes, including Aqualad and Aquagirl.

After how successful James Wan’s Aquaman was, it makes sense that there is an increased interest in exploring more of the characters who make up what is often thought of as the “Aqua-verse.” And while I previously suggested that the Aquaman sequel should bring in Aqualad or Aquagirl as a foil to the titular hero, it actually seems like a better idea to have these characters joining the second season of Titans. Not only is it exactly where they belong as members of the team that they have been a part of before (in the comics), but it might actually give them the chance to shine.

While team-ups can get jam-packed with too many characters, in this case, it actually feels like more is better. Not only does it give fans a chance to see more of the DC universe from the comics, but it means that people like Dick Grayson’s Robin don’t have to carry a story. Instead, characters like Superboy, Jericho, Aqualad, and Starfire can take the lead for a bit.

If the rumors are true and Titans really is bringing Aquagirl and Aqualad to the second season, this would be a great way to add more story opportunities to the series. And of course, it is also a chance to have new faces join the mix.

Until there are true casting news and definitive information released from the show, all we can do is speculate on who could play these parts, what it would be like to have them on the team, and even who the villains following them might be. But sometimes, that is the best part. The chance to envision the character for yourself, before someone else is chosen for the role.

While it is hard to create our dream casting, as it would be nice to add more unknown actors and actresses to the series, my hope is that if they do bring Aquagirl to the show they stick with their casting description and give us a young Mediterranean girl for the part. Of course, in terms of casting Aqualad, it all depends on which of the characters from the comics who used that name is being added to the series. (While both Garth and Jackson Hyde have used the name Aqualad, it would make sense for the series to give us the Garth version as in the comics he was a founding member of Teen Titans.)

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that these rumors are true and we really are getting Aquagirl and Aqualad. Even if we only get one of these Atlanteans, I would still be okay with that, as they would bring a new dimension to the Titans and potentially new villains to face.
