Oliver tries one last time to stop and possibly redeem Emiko in the Arrow season finale. Read below for information on how to watch live.
Season 7 of Arrow may be coming to an end, but we have a feeling that tonight’s finale will be more of a turning point than a resolution. As the recurring flash-forwards show, even if the team succeeds in foiling Emiko’s plan to destroy Star City, another, even more dangerous threat is on the way.
Last week’s episode planted the seeds for the dystopian future. For starters, Emiko released the surveillance footage from the subway station, revealing the truth about Roy’s bloodlust-fueled rampage and undoing the fragile trust the team had built with the police and public. The city may not be doomed (yet), but neither can it be entirely saved. The tide has officially turned against vigilantes.
In addition, at Alena’s suggestion, Felicity decided to go off the grid, which might explain Emily Bett Rickards’ imminent departure from the show. (We’re guessing that the future storyline will culminate in Felicity somehow sacrificing herself, which will explain her absence from the flash-forwards.) As much as we’ll miss our resident hacker, it feels like a fitting end to her arc, taking her obsession with security to its natural conclusion.
First thing’s first, though: Emiko has to be foiled. Here is the official synopsis for the season finale, titled (ironically, we assume) “You Have Saved This City,” courtesy of The CW:
"FAMILY TIES — The battle between Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Emiko (Sea Shimooka) comes to a boiling point which brings back some familiar faces and leaves others in dire jeopardy."
Judging by the preview, the episode will be heavy on action, which is just fine with us, especially since James Bamford is directing. As the past couple weeks have demonstrated, Arrow is at its best when it keeps things simple in terms of scope. Expect each of the main characters, as well as returning players like Laurel and Curtis, to get their moment.
Bamford directs from a script by Beth Schwartz and Rebecca Bellotto.
