Game of Thrones and the world of Harry Potter: How the two series go together for fans

Harry Potter was an interesting time for many fans because it was, arguably, the first huge book series made into a successful film franchise and now Game of Thrones has taken that place.

Game of Thrones is the biggest show on television right now but, before then, Harry Potter reigned supreme as the best book to movie adaptation. So, is Game of Thrones shining because Harry Potter lead the trend?

I’d say yes, mainly because without something like Harry Potter, we wouldn’t know what to expect with Thrones. To be fair though, at least we had all the books prior to the series coming to an end so we knew what we were getting ourselves into.

But with the final season of Game of Thrones, that’s very clearly not the case. Beside that, we have the series at our disposal because of Harry Potter but it is also fun to recognize why the series resonates with us so much.

It isn’t that there is magic (there is but it isn’t the most important aspect of the story) or there are clear good guys and bad guys. It’s that we all feel included in our own ways. From picking your houses to rooting for who you want on the Iron Throne, Game of Thrones is very much the same feel for fans as Potter continues to be.

And who knows, maybe they’ll switch places and we’ll get a Potter TV series and a movie franchise for Game of Thrones. Until then, we can love them both.
