13. Jasmine and Aladdin

Jasmine is one of the more outspoken Disney princesses, and she definitely had a good head on her shoulders – especially when it came to love. “I am not a prize to be won” is nothing short of an iconic line. And yet, her relationship with Aladdin probably wouldn’t function too well in reality.

When Jasmine discusses her suitors with Prince Ali, she compares his pompousness to theirs, lumping them all together as “swaggering peacocks.” Clearly, showing off is not her style. So Aladdin’s arrival via parade would be an immediate turnoff (and it was).

Eventually, Jasmine tricks Aladdin into admitting that he lied about meeting her in the marketplace.  It’s the perfect opportunity to lay all his cards on the table, and he chooses to lie to her again.

When Jafar reveals Aladdin’s true identity, Jasmine has bigger things to worry about; she doesn’t exactly have time to be mad. But in all likelihood, she’d be furious. Regardless of how she felt about him before, lying twice is a serious breach of trust.

Assuming her father found out as well, how could he ever have enough faith in Aladdin to make him Sultan?

Aladdin may have shown Jasmine the world, but he doesn’t show her who he truly is – without Genie – more than once in their story. With the live-action version of Aladdin hitting theaters this Summer, Disney has the potential to change things between these two.

But if they do, would it change the integrity of the whole story? It’s possible.
