Based on the title and trailer alone, the seventh episode of The Twilight Zone might not be that subtle. In the same respect, subtlety isn’t really necessary when our society has a longstanding history with misogyny and sexual assault. This week’s episode delves into the prevalence of women’s issues with an interesting spin.

Wading in the alternate dimension is a running theme: Extraterrestrials. Perhaps the common theme of aliens will play a larger part in this first season of the reboot. For now, it’s just an exciting science fiction element that helps drive the plot and the socio-political commentary.

Okay, aliens, or a meteor for that matter, might not be the cause of the men-wide violent outbursts in The Twilight Zone. We have a feeling that the parallel dimension will play on the real-world issues women indiscriminately face, but the whole meteor-driven violence and conflict is just a way to exaggerate our reality.

Our current pop culture slate reflects harmful misogynistic views. Some popular shows like Game of Thrones even try to spin rape as positive character growth. Given how assinine that sounds and the complete disregard for the level of WTFery in Sansa’s recent arc, this week’s Twilight Zone episode is necessary.
