Infusing Isabelle with Heavenly Fire was one of two major book tie-ins this week. In the original series, it’s Jace who is imbued with Heavenly Fire. As a book reader, this was a wildly fun twist.

Thanks to the power coursing through her, Isabelle was able to take down Lilith rather quickly. Unfortunately, it brought Isabelle to her breaking point, where the fire nearly consumed her. From there, things got very Guardians of the Galaxy-esque, but it tied up that plot point with a quick bow.

Without turning into a human torch every time she got near a Downworlder, Izzy was free to get as close as she wanted to Simon. And they certainly got close.

The opening minutes of the second half of the finale were a shipper’s dream. All three major couples were in bed together, having clearly had an eventful night. Unfortunately, that’s about where the happiness ended for Clace.

Unbeknownst to Jace,  Clary got a visit from her mother. It was a beautiful, emotional moment for Clary, despite the fact that it was basically just an angelic scolding. The angels sent Jocelyn to Clary to deliver a warning; stop creating your own runes, or you’ll be stripped of them entirely.

It seems easy enough to oblige, until Jonathan resurfaces. He spent the bulk of the finale’s first hour struggling to adapt to his full demon form. But with some help from the Seelie Queen – including a quick sleepover – Jonathan was reborn a true monster.

Apparently, when you turn into a demon, your hair gets bleached. But it goes a bit deeper than just a style choice. Upon learning that the show wouldn’t have a fourth season, Luke Baines specifically asked to go blond, to give fans of the books a truer imagining of Jonathan.

Boy, will I miss him. Jonathan was among those who lost his life in the series finale, and it was devastating. In the end, it was Clary who did it – it was Clary who had to do it. I think I might’ve actually felt my heart squeezing as she lowered her brother to the ground, shushing him.

Unfortunately, in order to do that, Clary had to create one final rune.
