Shadowhunters has reached its epic conclusion, and it was full of love, sadness and hope. Here’s our final breakdown – emotional or otherwise.

Ave atque vale – Hail and farewell.

Fortunately, this wasn’t something we had to say to any of our major characters in the Shadowhunters series finale. The writers kept everyone we’ve known and loved from the beginning alive, but not necessarily well.

Alec and Magnus got the happiest ending, and with as many emotions as we went through with Monday’s finale, let’s start with the highest notes. Yes, the Malec wedding happened, and it was glorious. Madzie was the flower girl, Magnus planned the whole thing, and Max even made an appearance! Little dude is okay!

But before the men could get down the aisle, they had to get out of Edom. Thanks to an Alliance rune from Clary, Alec and his Shadowhunter friends were able to angelically bond with their Downworlder friends and survive the demonic atmosphere.

In bonding their blood, the rune also allowed the group to share powers. Clary bonded with Simon, giving her super speed and a taste for blood. Alec bonded with Lorenzo Rey, giving him magic, though he couldn’t control it. Jace bonded with Meliorn, resulting in the inability to lie.

The two men’s banter during this period was an absolute joy, and a proper nod to a character as important as Meliorn. He seemed to only rejoin the plot for important moments – this one included – but Jade Hassouné played him so well.

It was a close call for Meliorn after trying to sneak up on Lilith, but thanks to Magnus and Lorenzo, he made it through. As nice as it was seeing the two warlocks working together, their reconciliation did feel a bit quick. For as bitter as each man was toward the other, finishing the night as buddies felt strange. Respectful acquaintances might’ve worked a bit better.

Lorenzo even found a spark at Malec’s wedding, with none other than Underhill. It was surprisingly shipworthy.

Speaking of ships, it happened. Sizzy finally set sail. It was an agonizingly slow burn, but they made it. Oddly enough, their first kiss wasn’t quite as passionate as I had expected. It makes sense though; Simon and Izzy were very sure about their feelings, but neither are great at relationships. A little hesitation can’t be faulted.

The kiss was definitely hot though. Literally, Izzy caught on fire. Turns out, taking a blast of shrapnel from an angelic artifact does have some side effects.
