More from Harry Potter

While there was no standard tweet sent out from J.K. Rowling like the years that have gone by, some fans did notice that something had happened on Rowling’s official Twitter feed. Her Twitter banner had been updated.

Fans noticed it had changed to a starry sky on May 2 and some fans believe this is the annual Harry Potter apology; a visual apology if you will. More specifically, an apology for killing off Sirius Black, Harry’s godfather and best friend to James Potter.

Now we all know that Sirius didn’t die during the Battle of Hogwarts, he was killed off in Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. Rowling has, however, apologized in the past for deaths not related to The Battle of Hogwarts, for example, Dobby the House Elf. So it is entirely possible this is her 2019 Harry Potter death apology.

Rowling has not come out and said if it is or isn’t. So we’ll have to decide for ourselves instead.
