Meghan Markle and Prince Harry make history with their newborn boy

Meghan Markle just gave birth, making history in the process as her son is the first interracial baby in the British monarchy’s recent history.

Meghan Markle — the Duchess of Sussex — has given birth to a healthy baby boy. The yet to be named son was born at 5:26 a.m., and weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces. The Duchess and her husband, Prince Harry, announced the news via Instagram this morning.

Prince Harry has been seemingly over the moon, saying that this has been amazing. He also sang his praises for his wife (and women everywhere).

“How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, but we’re both absolutely thrilled,” he told the press shortly after his wife gave birth.

The couple has been open about breaking away from tradition, and are celebrating the birth in the privacy of their own home. They opted out of the celebrator photo shoot outside the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.

The newest addition to the Royal Family is seventh in line to the throne, with Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Prince Harry all in front. He is also the first interracial Prince in the monarch’s recent history, as well as Queen Elizabeth’s eight great-grandchild.

The Duchess and Prince Harry have had no qualms about creating their own narrative, shaking up tradition, and paving their own, modern way. This has also made them a focal point for British tabloids, who have in recent years, been aghast that Megan actually hugs members of the public, or for existing in general.

The newest royal will be the talk of the tabloid town for some time, since he is an interracial child. Britain is 87 percent white, but interracial children are becoming the fastest growing minority. Having interracial people in the Royal Family is a wonderful thing to see for young people, as it gives a positive — and hopeful — look into the future.

We wish the Duchess and Prince all the best, and can’t wait to see pictures of the new Prince! What are your thoughts on the Royal birth? Leave your comments below and let us know!
