We don’t all have to love Ron Weasley and here is why I don’t love him

Ron Weasley is seemingly a fan favorite but that doesn’t mean that we all have to love him. So, is it okay if we criticize the character now or do we still have to pretend?

I’ve always felt like an outsider because I don’t like Ron Weasley. When it comes to being a fan of Harry Potter, we’re almost told to love the Golden Trio no matter what. That’s not to say that I hate Ron Weasley, he’s just not my favorite character and I don’t particularly like that he’s the funny sidekick who gets the girl and everything ends up great for him.

If anyone in the series is a Mary Sue, I’d even say it’s Ron. He’s fine, can be funny, and is a somewhat good friend to Harry but it just seems like I’m on the outside for not really liking him that much. And I’m sorry for that.

It doesn’t mean that we can’t have different opinions from the norm. That’s the beauty of the series, we have so many things to enjoy and like and with that, we can have different opinions as well. Do I have to like Ron Weasley? No, but I recognize his importance to this story and what he means to the story at large.

I understand that there are fans who love him most and I’m not discounting them either. I’m just pointing out that, for some of us, he’s not our favorite and that opinion is also a valid one. Everyone is different and that’s okay, that’s what makes this series so wonderful.
