MARVEL’S AGENT CARTER – ABC’s “Marvel’s Agent Carter” stars Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter. (ABC/Bob D’Amico)

About Steve staying in the past with Peggy… Did he make an alternate timeline? What the heck happened?

Firstly, poor Agent Sousa from Agent Carter. Maybe he was the fling in between Cap getting frozen and Cap returning.

There are so many theories floating around right now about the time travel. Because they are warned that alternate timelines will happen. But Cap staying in the past doesn’t change things, according to Banner—changing the past doesn’t change the present timeline.

Does he stay on the sidelines and ignore Hydra infiltrating SHIELD while Peggy runs it? Does she get Alzheimer’s/dementia right when Capsicle Cap gets unfrozen so that seeing young Steve later on doesn’t mess with her as much as it should? Or does he live in an alternate timeline where he stays Captain America from the ’40s and beyond and hangs up the mantle later? And finds his way to our current timeline to say his farewells as Old Steve?

Or maybe Peggy’s husband in the MCU was always this Steve. After all, we never get a name. We never see photos. The closest we get is a video at the Smithsonian where Peggy mentions her husband being part of a group of soldiers Steve helped rescue during the War. But that could easily just be a cover story.  It’s possible it was original Steve from 2023 traveling back.

And if Cap was always meant to go back in time and live, there’s nothing to alter because it’s already happened. It was always meant to be this way.

Look, time travel gets wonky if you think about it too hard…
