Broken Throne – Victoria Aveyard

Technically, Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen series wrapped up with the publication of its fourth and final novel War Storm in 2018. But it turns out we’re not quite done with the kingdom of Norta just yet, after all.

Broken Throne is a collection of multiple novellas, along with some extra fannish goodies like maps, flags, journal entries from various characters and bonus scenes. Two of the five novellas – Steel Scars and Queen Song – have been published before, and follow the stories of Scarlet Guard leader Captain Farley and King Tiberius’ first wife Queen Coriane, respectively.

Three of the stories are brand new, but the characters have not been officially revealed yet. And the official synopsis doesn’t give away much in terms of additional detail.

"The perfect addition to the #1 New York Times bestselling Red Queen series, this gorgeously designed package features three brand-new novellas, two previously published novellas, Steel Scars and Queen Song, and never-before-seen maps, flags, bonus scenes, journal entries, and much more exclusive content. Fans will be delighted to catch up with beloved characters after the drama of War Storm and be excited to hear from brand-new voices as well. This stunning collection is not to be missed!"

Still, it’s a safe bet that fans of the Red Queen Saga will no doubt snap this up.

Broken Throne releases May 7.

Dark Shores – Danielle Jensen

Danielle Jensen’s Malediction Trilogy told was a fantasy series centered around a kingdom of trolls. Her new novel, entitled Dark Shores, focuses on a different sort of magical people, but sounds no less intriguing.

"In a world divided by meddlesome gods and treacherous oceans, only the Maarin possess the knowledge to cross the Endless Seas. But they have one mandate: East must never meet West."

In a world where the Goddess of the Seas rules all, Teriana is a member of the waveborn people, comfortable only at sea. Yet when she breaks her people’s strictest law to help a friend, devastating consequences ensure. Marius is the commander of a rival kingdom’s legend – who has a deep secret of his own to protect. The two are forced into an unlikely alliance when a power-mad ruler blackmails them both into helping him conquer the Dark Shores. How far will they go to protect themselves and keep their families safe?

Well, isn’t that always the question? But as this the first installment in a brand-new trilogy, one can only hope we’ve got a ways to go to find out.

Dark Shores will be released on May 7.
