Muggles in the Harry Potter world: Why we relate to those non-magical characters in the series

We’re all muggles, as much as we’d like to not be. So does that mean we only relate to non-magical characters? No, but there are a few that we love because of their love for magic.

Being a part of the ‘muggles’ of the Harry Potter series isn’t an easy thing to come to terms with. Even if we discovered that this world was real, we wouldn’t be a witch or a wizard. But that’s maybe why we love characters like Jacob Kowalski so much.

He just wants to be a part of this world and love magic. He doesn’t need to be the one doing the magic, he just wants to see it. Jacob is part of a time when muggles cannot know who is a wizard or even what magic is. So for him to fall in love with something like this and then have it taken away from him? That sounds like the worse kind of feeling.

Then again, that’s kind of where we all are, right? We were given this series, thrust into the magic, and then that magic was taken away without us knowing? That hurts probably more than existing in a world and not knowing that magic even exists.

So, for Jacob, I almost envy him. At least he can go back and relive the magic once he remembers. We just have to watch from the sidelines and re-read the series in hopes that we can keep the magic of Harry Potter alive within us all.

You may be a muggle but that doesn’t mean you only have to like the muggles! We can be whoever we want to be in the Harry Potter series. It’s just that Jacob Kowalski is a big ol’ mood.
