Alyssa Edwards

Last but certainly nowhere near least, there is the one and only Alyssa Edwards. Alyssa was a pageant queen who came out of the gate running on season 5, and her over the top personality and fantastic dance abilities made her one of the most iconic queens ever on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

After being named Miss Gay America in 2010 and eventually losing that title (and it being given to first alternate and fellow season 5 alum Coco Montrese), Alyssa definitely made a name for herself in the drag community, but it was when she landed on season 5 that she really blew up. Alyssa got eliminated in the ninth episode and ended in sixth place, or as the “fifth alternate” in pageant terms! But her tongue pops and hilarious quotes paved her legacy.

She returned for All Stars season 2, and this time ended in fifth place. The judges knew she was hilarious and knew she could dance, and she just reinforced her legend status, even if she couldn’t reach the top.

Since the show, though, Alyssa has only been seen as more iconic. Firstly, she’s the mother of the House of Edwards, which includes other queens from the show like Shangela, Laganja Estranja, Gia Gunn, and season 11’s Plastique Tiara. She appeared in both Hurricane Bianca and its sequel, and in 2018, landed her own Netflix docuseries Dancing Queen, which follows her day to day life as a dance teacher in her own dance studio in Mesquite, Texas.
