Some queens didn’t need a crown to shoot to the top, but other queens were destined to be crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar right from the beginning, like Bianca Del Rio. She only competed once, and she breezed right through and nabbed the crown without any problems.

Bianca was already somewhat of a local celebrity as a drag queen when she started performing in New Orleans, and even after moving to New York City, so when she was cast on the sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, everyone knew she would kill it. She had the experience and an array of talents, and sure enough, she blew through the competition. Her wit and talent with a sewing machine put her above the rest, and she never once landed in the bottom by the time the finale rolled around.

Bianca beat out Adore Delano and Courtney Act to take home the crown, and the loud-mouthed queen earned her rightful spot in the Drag Race family. She used her new fame to finance the film Hurricane Bianca, a film in which she starred as a gay man who was fired from his teaching job only to come back as his drag character to wreak havoc on the school. It guest starred RuGirls like Willam and Shangela, comedians Rachel Dratch and Margaret Cho, and RuPaul himself. The film got a sequel, Hurricane Bianca: From Russia With Hate, in 2018.

She toured the world in several stand-up shows, and has been one of the only queens to not release music after appearing on the show (probably for good reason). She’s set to make her West End debut in the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie in May in London.
