We all love our Hogwarts houses but have you ever thought about them in different languages? MentalFloss outlined some of them and honestly, it is fun to look at the differences!
Hogwarts is always our home but have you ever thought about the names of the houses in different languages? Well, MentalFloss has! In an article outlining what Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff would be in each language, we can see just how different they are!
And honestly, it is fun to look at. Here are some of our favorites!
In French:
"Gryffindor becomes Gryffondor.Hufflepuff becomes Poufsouffle.Ravenclaw becomes Serdaigle, which comes from serre d’aigle, or claw of the eagle.Slytherin becomes Serpentard."
In Brazilian Portuguese:
"Gryffindor becomes Grifinória.Hufflepuff becomes Lufa-lufa.Ravenclaw becomes Corvinal, a word that goes back to the Latin corvinus, for raven.Slytherin becomes Sonserina."
In Italian:
"Gryffindor becomes Grifondoro.Hufflepuff becomes Tassorosso, which means “red badger.” Badgers, of course, are the mascots of Hufflepuff House.Ravenclaw becomes Corvonero.Slytherin becomes Serpeverde."
In Romanian:
"Gryffindor becomes Cercetaş.Hufflepuff becomes Astropuf.Ravenclaw becomes Ochi de Şoim, which means “eye of the hawk.”Slytherin becomes Viperin."
