A game of strategy

For the honor of Grey Whale! Wait, that’s not right. Only Mermista can pull that off. It’s okay, we’ll work on creating our own She-Ra persona and matching war table battle figurines, so we don’t infringe on any of the princesses’ own tabletop counterparts. Regardless, “Roll With It” managed to combine tabletop roleplay games and some Horde ambushing plans into one episode, and we’re forever grateful.

Who said defending Etheria couldn’t be fun? The princesses and Bow clearly understand that work and play aren’t mutually exclusive. In an episode about strategy, their boardgame shenanigans gave them a lot of fantasy options for fighting the Horde outpost. Seeing as it’s a fantasy-themed show, that’s a pretty big accomplishment in itself.

The episode also subtly serves as a counterbalance to Adora’s imposter syndrome-related perfectionism. After all, she obsesses over planning and executing those plans perfectly because she’s afraid of failing as She-Ra. We know that Adora might lose some fights, but she’ll never fail at being She-Ra and actively protecting Etheria. In this episode, the princesses indirectly help her realize that improvisation is sometimes the best mode of action.

Sure, the tabletop game is fun to watch and fun for the whole Princess Alliance. However, we know Adora needs a break from her perpetual worrying. Bow’s purrfect puns were just a fun side effect to the episode.

Plus, we’re glad to see that Tiny Bow was indeed avenged.
