With Supergirl attempting to lie low for the time being, Dreamer takes center stage. Read below for all the information you need on this week’s episode.

There are four episodes left in Supergirl this season, and tensions in National City only continue to escalate. Last week’s investigation at the Stryker Island prison went horribly awry, resulting in a riot that cemented the current public perception of Supergirl as a threat. And now that President Baker has authorized Ben Lockwood to deputize the Children of Liberty, the situation is about to get worse.

Luckily, our heroes remain committed to fighting back in whatever way they can. Even Colonel Haley has become disillusioned with the government, defying her superiors and her by-the-book instincts to protect Supergirl. As bleak as things look at the moment, there’s some inspiration to be found in people putting themselves at risk to do what they believe is right. (Also, my hopes of an Alex/Haley pairing are inching ever closer to becoming a viable possibility!)

Meanwhile, seeing her efforts to help people backfire, Kara has decided to put aside her cape and fully embrace her role as a journalist. After all, prejudice comes in more forms than just physical violence.

But what does this mean for the city? The Children of Liberty are more powerful than ever, and aliens are more vulnerable than ever. Here is the official synopsis for this week’s episode, titled “American Dreamer,” courtesy of The CW:

"DAVID HAREWOOD DIRECTS — As Kara (Melissa Benoist) doggedly works as a reporter to clear Supergirl’s name, Dreamer (Nicole Maines) picks up the slack as National City’s protector, which leads to a showdown with Ben Lockwood (Sam Witwer). James (Mehcad Brooks) takes drastic measures to relieve his PTSD."

Since she became Dreamer, it seems as though Nia Nal has gotten less to do than before, serving mostly as a sidekick for Kara. Hopefully, “American Dreamer” will put her back in the spotlight. I get the sense that we have yet to see the full extent of her abilities. And, sure, maybe we’ll get a little bit of closure on her romance with Brainy.

With J’onn rather inconveniently off-planet, actor David Harewood gets to make his directorial debut with a story by Dana Horgan and teleplay by Daniel Beatty and Jess Kardos.
