The complicated feelings we all have about the Nagini storyline

facebooktwitterreddit

We get it, the creature that Nagini turns out to be is a very real thing in mythology but that doesn’t change the fact that our feelings about her are complicated even more now.

Nagini came into our lives as the pet of Voldemort that Harry would constantly have visions of. She was seen as a villain because of her association with Voldemort and her attack on Arthur Weasley but also, she was an animal so many of us let that go.

But then Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald came along and gave us this storyline for Nagini that makes her a redeemable character and while sure, that’s fun, it still makes it extremely hard for us to justify her now when we know what she does in the future. Which yes, sure, she joins Voldemort because he understands her but still, it is a questionable choice and maybe not one we like that much.

Nagini is a woman who transforms into a snake permanently and does Voldemort’s billing? Maybe not the best. If she was still the snake we knew and loved always, sure, that’s still fun to us because the idea of having a pet like that is brilliant. But making it that she is a woman with memories and a life before she turns for good isn’t that fun.

Nagini is going to have quite the storyline coming but it still sucks what she becomes.
