Spoiling the Harry Potter series for others: Is it okay to openly talk about it now?

facebooktwitterreddit

We’ve had the Harry Potter out for some time now but when is it okay to spoil something, even unknowingly? Has the time come or should we still talk about Potter with caution?

It came to my attention that not everyone knows about the Harry Potter series. When my coworker didn’t know that Dumbledore died, I had to reevaluate who knows a lot about the series. So what does that mean for spoilers?

Can we openly talk about everything without people getting angry at us or what should we do? It’s kind of like Darth Vader. At this point, we’ve all talked about it enough as a culture that we shouldn’t have to hide spoilers from the series.

Yet again, not everyone grew up reading Harry Potter or watched the movies. So to think that everyone would instantly know the series is our own fault but still, it is surprising how the idea of what we all know as a culture changes. So when is it okay to just talk about things?

Should we keep the fact about Snape loving Lily Potter for all that time a secret for those who don’t know? What is the protocol we should use? What if with each conversation, we started with “Do you know a lot about the Harry Potter series? Yes? Okay good so when Dumbledore dies” so then we know for sure we’re are all on the same page?

Is that too much? Either way, it is a weird life and maybe we should all just not talk about it?
