Dumbledore and Grindelwald and their ‘passionate’ relationship needs context

We get it, Dumbledore and Grindelwald were once an item, but it would be nice if we saw actual proof of that and didn’t have to rely solely on the ‘context’ of their relationship.

Sure, we know that Dumbledore and Grindelwald were once together but we’d like to see it. So far, we’ve only had to decipher it from the subtext of a scene rather than seeing it play out before us. And that isn’t really fair to us as fans.

We shouldn’t have to rely on what we ‘think’ happened when they have the ability to show this aspect of the story. For so long, we were told that Dumbledore is gay without having any kind of proof of it throughout the series.

Now though, we finally have that moment to see the love of Dumbledore’s life and the beginning of the war that would lead to the rise of Voldemort. Instead, we’re getting storylines that make no sense and a surprise McGonagall in the series when she wasn’t even born yet.

Would it be better if they had never included Dumbledore? Probably because he isn’t even teaching the right class in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. So, maybe it’d be better if we started to see Grindelwald and Dumbledore interacting with each other in a more productive way and not focusing on their relationship that we’re not even getting to see on screen.

Hopefully, they’ll start to fix it in Fantastic Beasts 3 but we’ll have to wait and see. And maybe we shouldn’t hold our breath.
