Mike goes to the Upside Down

Death is a big idea this coming season, with a lot of theories circling around characters dying or using a death or someone becoming a victim as growth. A big one for this season is that Mike will become a victim of the Upside Down to help Will grow and learn from his own experience there.

It isn’t a perfect theory, mainly because it forces one character to become a victim in order for another to experience growth. However, having different characters being taken to the Upside Down does further its importance for the show, especially since the end of season 2 featuring all of Hawkins being mirrored with a version of the city in the Upside Down.

All we know about season 3 is that our favorite characters seem happy and finally are “free” from what held Will through season 1 and season 2. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t something darker coming for the children of Hawkins.

With Eleven finding herself a family and a home in Hawkins, she would have to help Mike out of the Upside Down if this were the case. The last we saw of them, they were kissing at the school dance and clearly have feelings for each other. That means that if Mike did end up in the Upside Down, it wouldn’t just be Will who would have to grow and feel the loss.

Maybe it would bring Will and Eleven closer together, but everyone would want to find Mike.
