Joyce Byers is Eleven

Want the cute father and daughter relationship between Eleven and Hopper to be destroyed within a moment? Just take a look at this theory that states that Joyce Byers and Eleven are one and the same!  Please, don’t make this a thing. That is one messed up relationship that no one needs.

Basically, the idea is that Eleven is just Joyce from a different point in her life, and that’s why her connection to Will exists because he is her son. Okay, that’s fun. It does mean, however, that we’re leaving out the entire storyline where Hopper and Joyce used to have a romantic relationship together when they were in high school.

Does that mean that Hopper suddenly forgot what Joyce looked like when he adopted Eleven and let her into his life? Was he not like “huh, this little girl kind of looks like my ex-girlfriend”? This one may be a theory that would have seemed revolutionary at the time, but the minute you start to think about Hopper and Joyce, it ruins it.

Maybe it doesn’t ruin it, and Stranger Things 3 is going to explore the issues of this theory. That would mean we’re all going to have to go back to their father-daughter dynamic in season 2 and look at it through a very twisted light. (Again, please don’t let this theory be real. Let it go.)
