The paranormal in the Harry Potter series and other fictional worlds
We know that Harry Potter encounters lots of mystical beings in his time at Hogwarts and in the wizarding world but how do they compare to other series?
Harry Potter has come across a whole bunch of different creatures throughout his time in the wizarding world. But with those creatures comes the question: How do they exist in the cultural zeitgeist of mythical beings?
We have seen werewolves and ghosts but do the vampires exist and are they more Twilight vampires or would they be featured more in Buffy the Vampire Slayer? How do all these creatures exist in the mythos that we already know about them?
That’s one thing that was always super interesting about the Harry Potter series. We could never really know what was coming next but we did know at least a little about the beings that Harry came in contact with. If they were giants or werewolves or even Peeves, we at least knew what to expect from them.
The question is more whether or not these are the kinds of beings that could exist in similar series. With Buffy, those vampires are very different than those in True Blood or Twlight so we have three different kinds of vampires all taking up a space in our minds. So if Harry Potter ever came in contact with them, we’d not know what to expect.
Would it be fun if Fantastic Beast began to explore the mythical beings we’ve come to know? Definitely, it’d be super cool to see a vampire in the world of Harry Potter!
