In every relationship, there’s a “getting to know you phase.” If memory serves, there’s an entire song dedicated to it.

Jane Sloan and Pinstripe – it’s going to take some adjusting to start calling him Ryan – aren’t exactly strangers at this point, but they are still figuring out who they are as a couple. And this week on The Bold Type, they’re getting a violent shove into new territory.

Here’s how Freeform’s synopsis sums it up:

"Jane begins her fertility treatments in preparation for freezing her eggs and is assigned an article to write about her experience, but with a very personal twist. Kat learns that a prominent lesbian bar is being closed down and replaced with condos and decides to throw a Queer Prom to fundraise its rescue. Sutton moves in with Richard but struggles to accept his help when Oliver’s mysterious absences force her to put in more hours at work."

Thanks to the episode’s promo, we know that that “very personal twist” is a joint assignment with Pinstripe, and she’s less than thrilled about it. Patrick Duchand proved he wasn’t the actual worst in the season premiere, but he’s not scoring any points with this move.

Meanwhile, Kat is racking up points in the community with this Queer Prom. It’s the perfect event to help her get back on her feet, with or without a date.

The big question is what’s going on with Oliver? Missing work is not his style at all. Stephen Conrad Moore has said we’ll be seeing a different side of Oliver this season; this could likely be the beginning of that.
