Neville Longbottom’s life wasn’t great, just like Harry Potter’s

We focus on the tragedy that fell upon Harry Potter but, when you look at it, Neville Longbottom had just as tragic of a life as Harry did. Almost more so in the end.

Neville Longbottom may still have his parents but they weren’t there for him because of what Bellatrix Lestrange did to them. Which is maybe worse than your parents being dead. Like Harry Potter, Neville never got to know his parents as they were and had to live with his grandmother. The difference is that Harry Potter had fame and fortune but Neville didn’t.

He was seen as a bumbling idiot, couldn’t remember anything and was barely friends with Ron, Hermione, and Harry. But, in the end, it was Neville who made it possible for Harry to defeat Voldemort. Without Neville killing Nagini, he couldn’t have ever taken on the Dark Lord and defeated him.

So, why doesn’t Neville get as much credit as Harry? Probably because he’s Neville. He was just the other boy it could have happened to but didn’t. Still, Neville’s parents were attacked and who knows, if Harry hadn’t reflected back the curse onto Voldemort, Neville might have been killed too.

But we need to recognize that Neville had it just as bad as Harry (except that Neville’s grandmother was nicer than the Dursleys). So while Harry’s childhood sucked, Neville had to watch as his parents deal with their insanity and sit by and do nothing.

dark. Next. What is the actual emotional trauma of Harry Potter’s life like?

Neville Longbottom and Harry Potter were both targets of Voldemort’s wrath and greed. They’re both tragic characters but they don’t let that rule their life and maybe that’s why we love them so much! Let us know how you feel about these characters in the comments below!
