Shazam mid-credits scene has an interesting twist for the villains of the DCEU
Shazam! has arrived in theaters and that means we can finally break down what different aspects of the movie mean for the future of the DCEU. This includes discussing the mid-credits scene.
If you have seen Shazam, then you know that the movie gave us exactly what we were expecting — a mid-credits (and post-credit) scene to tease us with possibilities. And just like other comic book movies before it, this scene was a perfect way to remind us that there are more stories that can be told revolving around this superhero, his family, and the villains he comes up against.
Obviously it is the mid-credits scene from Shazam that has the most significance of the two scenes that ended the film, as this is where all other comic book movies choose to give us a meaty scene to end the story. This particular scene is all about the movie’s villain, Doctor Thaddeus Sivana, played by Mark Strong.
After being defeated by Zachary Levi’s Shazam, and having his powers stripped away, it appears Doctor Sivana wasn’t killed, but is now residing in a padded cell somewhere. And he isn’t taking his defeat lying down. Instead, it looks like he is trying to get back to the temple where the ancient wizard gifted Billy Batson with his powers.
However, the symbols aren’t really working for him, which makes sense considering what happened to the magical staff the wizard wielded. Without the ability to get back to the temple and the Rock of Eternity, Doctor Sivana is basically being left to stew. Except, things are never quite that easy when it comes to defeating bad guys.
In a quirky moment that allows the scene to show that there are more villains on the horizon for Shazam, a wormy type of creature appears in the window and actually speaks to the former super villain. The worm, who was seen earlier in the film living within the Rock of Eternity, teases Doctor Sivana with the idea that there are other ways that he can get his hands on magic.
And while that is all we really get to see, we have a lot of theories here.
Not only do we think this could be the super villain Master Mind from the comics (we hope this is Master Mind, because then we have a LOT to look forward to in the DCEU), but this could be the introduction we have been waiting for of the Monster Society of Evil. Based on the comics, this could be the start of an amazing (if evil) team up that would challenge Shazam, and possibly other DC heroes, in many ways.
This scene was an important moment for the future of this hero, even if he wasn’t a part of it. The scene shows us that the world may be getting even more Shazam and we are here for it. Of course, it also proves that Doctor Sivana is still around too, and that makes the moment even better. He truly is a worthy villain who we think is ready to take on the entire DCEU if given the chance.
We don’t know what the future holds for Shazam, but based on how much fun the film was and how solid this mid-credits scene is, we could see the DCEU growing with the help of Zachary Levi and his unique superhero.
