When are we going to get a real musical about the Harry Potter series?
Sure, we have some musicals and shows around the Harry Potter series but when are we going to have a real Broadway musical about the Boy Who Lived? We need it!
Fans of the Harry Potter series were surprised when we all fell in love with Darren Criss as the Boy Who Lived in A Very Potter Musical. A production from his college days, the musical followed haphazardly through the Harry Potter series and brought many of our favorite aspects of the series into one show.
It went on to have two more musicals until they ended it but it left Potter fans longing for the day that we could go to Broadway and see a show about our favorite boy. Well, we kind of got that. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child continued the story we already knew in a fun new way but it isn’t a musical.
The two show event is a straight play with some scoring elements but there are no musical numbers to take us through the magical world. So it left us wondering, will we ever see the day that a Potter musical takes to the stage?
With Criss’s musical already existing, could it come to Broadway and give us the magic we crave? Or could another show come along and give us more of the Boy Who Lived? It isn’t a far off request, we do now have a Broadway show, but it would be nice to finally get to see a musical version of Harry Potter!
