DC releases teaser trailer for Joker and his origin story will make you cry
The first teaser trailer for DC’s Joker unveils a different side of the insane Batman nemesis we know and his story is really sad.
When the phenomenal Joaquin Phoenix was hired to play the part of Joker in DC’s upcoming self-titled movie, fans were curious because Phoenix’s film record has a way of motivating the most reluctant fans. There have been many Jokers in the Batman cinematic universe, but Phoenix will likely be playing his own version of the Joker, like Cameron Montague on Gotham, albeit for a different reason.
Those devoted to canon can’t even complain because many people wrote the Joker comics through the years and it caused the Joker’s personality to range from silly to horrifying. It all depended on who was behind the writing at the time and what their goals were.
While no one can hold a candle to Heath Ledger or Jack Nicholson, who played very different versions of the character, Phoenix will be adding to the Joker contribution as a different person altogether. And that becomes really clear in the first teaser trailer for Joker, which features glimpses of where the the Laughing Clown started.

What stands out from the trailer compared to past versions of the Joker is that we are finally going to get a real origin story or at least one we can believe. Ledger’s origin story in the Dark Knight series changed depending on who he spoke to, making his motives a complete mystery. The second thing we noticed from the remarkably different trailer is that we wanted to cry our eyes out as it progressed.
Who’d have thought you could ever empathize with the Joker.
So far, it looks like the Joker was someone who tried to be the sunshine in the world. He followed his mothers advise to “smile and put on a happy face.” He took care of his ailing mother and possibly had a love interest?
Unfortunately, life doesn’t always work out so well. From what the trailer teases, the Joker’s mother passes away, and he heads straight for a meltdown. He’s treated badly, gets beat up twice, and is even thrown down a flight of stairs. And all of this happens in just one trailer!
The rest can be interpreted as Joker’s performance career as a clown taking flight, and it looks like he uses his clown outfit to taunt Gotham’s political sphere. Most likely, he’s jabbing at the Gotham PD. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about this version of the Joker before the movie’s release.
Set your calendars, DC’s Joker is set to be in theaters on October 2019.
