Gotham’s version of Joker gets a new look in time for the season finale

Gotham has released a trailer and poster showing off the latest evolution of Batman’s infamous nemesis Joker. But don’t call him Joker. His name is J.

Gotham dangled the idea of a “Joker” on the series for what seemed like forever before they finally introduced Jerome Valeska.

The deeper the series went into their story of how the infamous enemies of Batman lived when he was a child, the more like the Joker Jerome Valeska seemed. But the writers claimed that the character based off of the clown villain had yet to make an appearance giving way to a million fan theories.

We all got in on the joke when Gotham introduced Jerome’s twin brother Jeremiah Valeska. Jerome was never the Joker because Jeremiah would be the one to ascend into full Joker transformation. And with the final season underway, most fans would believe that Jeremiah has reached his full Joker potential. Jeremiah had eventually gained the pale complexion and ruby lips that curled into the familiar smile after Jerome gifted him laughing gas. Is this our Joker? Yes, it sure is.

But we were all wrong to think that Jerome was done evolving. With just two episodes to go in the final season of the show, Gotham has unveiled Jeremiah’s final form, and the Joker-like transformation is mind-blowing. In true Joker fashion, Jeremiah had fallen into a vat of chemicals and was left brain dead. But this new teaser trailer shows the disfigured and pasty face of a mad man with wisps of green hair.

The sad thing is that DC won’t let Gotham use the word Joker or his iconic green hair, so the show has had to get extra creative to get their point across. For this reason, this final form of Jeremiah is named “J.”

Even if DC doesn’t let Gotham take on the better-known aspects of Joker, I have to admit they’ve worked wonders with what they’ve had. J’s attire in the poster is uncanny with the purple wool coat and yellow gloves. But nothing thrills me more than seeing a Batarang stuck in the Joker’s hand.

Cameron Monaghan’s acting has really come through also to bring this Joker based character to life. So, it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t have a full head of green hair. Everyone knows who he is supposed to be and he is winning.

And for the record, the Joker is supposed to be Batman’s most menacing villain because of his intelligence and complete lack of empathy and sanity. And nothing has nailed the mark more than this rendition of DC’s Joker. Gotham‘s Joker lookalike Jeremiah Valeska is by far the creepiest and darkest looking Joker that’s been delivered so far.
