In Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Jacob Kowalski was tricked into a relationship, forced to run around after Queenie, and deserved better than he got.
Jacob Kowalski was a character that many of us understood after the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie. He was a man who loved magic and wanted to be a part of it once he knew it existed. Part of the problem is that it is illegal for muggles to know about the wizarding world and we had to watch as Jacob was forced to forget what he saw.
So, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we thought we might get a better look at the character. Instead, Queenie tricked him and he then spent the movie searching her and his love of Newt, Queenie, Tina, and magic seemed to be pushed to the side just to follow after Queenie.
Sure, it was a way of showing his love to her but also why did Jacob have to have tunnel vision about what he wanted in the second movie. He didn’t feel fully formed and was the kind of character that had one mission and that was it.
Jacob Kowalski was so relatable because he just wanted to be a part of the magic in the first film that it almost feels like a cheap shot to know that he didn’t keep up his love of magic, even after remembering that it exists.
