Warner Bros. CEO reveals J.K. Rowling is working hard on the script of Fantastic Beasts 3. A script Rowling said she completed in Dec. 2018. Is the script going through rewrites?

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald split the fandom. Some of us loved it, some of us hated it. There are many reasons that contributed to this, from the casting of Johnny Depp to the retcon of Professor McGonagall, Aurelius Dumbledore, and more. So it wasn’t a huge surprise when Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was labeled the worst performing movie of the entire Wizarding World franchise; putting the need for improvement on Fantastic Beasts 3.

Warner Bros. CEO, Kevin Tsujihara, understands the need for Fantastic Beasts 3 to succeed. Explaining in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that the second movie did not do as well as the first and they hope to improve things with the third.

He then went on to explain that J.K. Rowling is currently working hard on the script for Fantastic Beasts 3. Which is a little puzzling. Because the script was reportedly complete back in Dec. 2018. So is the Fantastic Beasts 3 script being written?

With so much pressure being piled on it very well could be. Rowling may be the author of the Wizarding World stories, but I am assuming somewhere down the line in the Warner Bros. movie cycle, the script would need to be approved.

Perhaps Warner Bros weren’t happy with the script she completed in Dec. 2018 and have asked her to go back and rewrite a few chapters. Maybe this played into the decision of pushing Fantastic Beasts 3 back?

Then again, this may have always been the plan from the very beginning. While Rowling may have let the world know she had finished the script in 2018. It very well could have been a first draft rather than a completed script. So there was also the intention of her working on it again. Meaning it’s not necessarily a rewrite, more of a second draft.

We’re very unlikely to get a confirmation from either Warner Bros. or J.K. Rowling herself on this but it is certainly food for thought. The most important thing to take away here, however, is both J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros. want Fantastic Beasts 3 to be the best it can possibly be for all of us and they are willing to take their time in making sure they get it right.
