Hollywood showed up and showed out at the 2019 Oscars, but these 19 looks absolutely rocked the red carpet, from Billy Porter to Glenn Close.

Begone, boring tuxedos and safe dresses. Hello, 2019 Oscars! Even if you only caught a glimpse of what the stars rocked on Hollywood’s biggest night, you probably got the idea that most of the celebrities didn’t play it safe — or if they did, they at least had something a little fun to spice up their looks.

But we’re not here to talk about the more basic looks. We’re here to talk about the famous people who came, saw, and conquered the red carpet however they saw fit to do so. There are no strict criteria to get on this list. The only goal is to be eye-catching on such a busy red carpet, and these stars nailed it.

Let’s jump right in, shall we?

Donna and Michael B. Jordan

Sure, as always, we can appreciate Michael B. Jordan’s tuxedo choices — love the midnight blue velvet, by the way — but we’re here for his mother, Donna Jordan. That is a well-tailored dress that emphasizes her curves, yet still has some support thanks to that illusion netting, and props to her for still having a cane on the red carpet. Even without her son giving her a kiss to the cheek, it’s clear she’s having herself a night. They both look fantastic.
