Recently released Game of Thrones footage shows Arya’s first glimpse at a dragon, and it could hint at a positive relationship between the Starks and Dany.
The Stark siblings grew up listening to Old Nan tell stories about magical beings, like the Children of the Forest. But, unlike their brothers, Arya and Sansa have yet to see much of the supernatural residing in Westeros. Of course, that’s all about to change during the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. Both Daenerys and the Night King are headed toward Winterfell, meaning the Stark sisters will be getting their first glimpse of dragons and White Walkers pretty soon.
In fact, new Game of Thrones footage released in one of HBO’s sizzle reels might actually show Arya’s first look at Daenerys’ dragons.

The Game of Thrones portion of the trailer shows Daenerys’ dragons flying in the sky over Winterfell, as well as her army of Unsullied marching. It then flashes to Arya, who’s looking up with what appears to be the beginnings of a smile on her face. I mean, we’d be pretty awed at our first sight of a dragon, too.
And Arya’s reaction, which seems equal parts amazement and respect, might be a good thing when it comes to bridging the distance between the Starks and the Targaryen queen. And let’s be honest, there’s nothing we’d love more than a friendship between Arya and Dany.
In previous footage from the eighth season, fans got a glimpse at Sansa’s reaction to Daenerys and her army—one that was considerably less welcoming than Arya’s. In fact, Sansa seemed positively icy upon meeting the woman Jon bent the knee to, and we can’t blame her. She’s learned her lesson from trusting too easily.
But perhaps Arya can help Jon in forging a bond between the Lady of Winterfell and the Mother of Dragons. The seventh season of the show saw a remarkable change in the Stark sisters’ relationship with one another. The last time the two interacted, way back in season 1, they were at each other’s throats.
But the two have changed following their struggles over the past seven seasons, and when they reunite in Winterfell, it’s with a newfound fondness for one another. Sansa is positively thrilled to see Arya return, and they even trust each another enough to see through Littlefinger’s deceptions. Their final scene together makes it clear that they each respect what the other has been through.
And if Sansa now respects and trusts Arya’s opinion, the younger Stark sister’s positive reaction to Daenerys could eventually alter Sansa’s view of the queen. And we certainly hope Sansa warms to Daenerys if Arya does; that trio is a formidable one to say the least.
We’ll have to wait until the final season airs to know for sure how things unravel between the Starks and Dany, but that’s one way it could play out. The final season of Game of Thrones airs on April 14.
