6 RuPaul’s Drag Race guest judges we’re most excited about

All Stars 4 is officially done, and now on to the next one! Season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race is nearly here, and we are beyond ready for the star-studded judging panel.

Already having RuPaul withdrawals after last week’s All Stars finale? Or are you just trying to forget about that disaster ASAP? No matter how you feel, it’s time to move on because RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11 is already on the horizon and a new crop of queens are about to sashay into the workroom!

I know we’re all excited to meet the new queens so we can decide who we love, who we hate, and who we love to hate, but before we get to that, there’s another order of business to discuss: the guest judges! We’ve been spoiled with huge stars like Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera the last couple seasons, so Ru has a lot to live up to.

The latest promo revealed who will be taking a seat behind the judges table in season 11, so let’s talk about who we’re most excited to see!

Miley Cyrus

While I have to say I am a little disappointed the rumors about Britney Spears being a guest judge on the season 11 premiere turned out to be false, I think Miley Cyrus is a great alternative. Not only is she fun and not afraid to let loose, but she’s also not just a celeb trying to get screen time on a popular TV show.

She also already has a deep appreciation for drag, as she demonstrated when she brought a whole bunch of RuPaul’s Drag Race queens — like Willam, Laganja Estranja, Alyssa Edwards, Courtney Act, Carmen Carrera, Shangela and others– as well as other drag performers from the L.A. area onto the stage during her 2015 MTV VMA performance. I can’t wait to see what she has to say to the new queens!

Tiffany “New York” Pollard

Honestly, what took them so long? New York is so over the top she’s basically a drag queen herself, and she’s as GIF-worthy as any of the past contestants. Just imagine the GIFs that will come out of this episode!

For those who don’t know, Tiffany Pollard first got our attention on the show Flavor of Love, and then went on to become a certified reality TV legend. If you’ve ever used social media, you’ve definitely seen some kind of meme of her before, and that’s why we love her.

She’s very aware of her meme status and she has managed to turn that into a full-fledged career. I have to say, I’m impressed and I am so ready for the hilarity that is bound to ensue on her first of hopefully many appearances on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Natasha Lyonne (and Clea Duvall)

Natasha Lyonne has been around for ages, but in the mainstream, she never really got her time to shine in a starring role — until this year’s Netflix original Russian Doll. Starring as spunky New Yorker Nadia who keeps dying and repeating the same day, Lyonne really made a mark on viewers, who all fell in love with her rugged charm. But many of us have been obsessed for years.

Before Russian Doll, Lyonne was known for Orange is the New Black and years before that for American Pie. But she’s also starred in cult hits such as Party Monster and But I’m A Cheerleader, the latter of which also starred RuPaul.

Lyonne’s female love interest in But I’m A Cheerleader, Clea Duvall, is also confirmed as a guest judge this season. If Lyonne and Duvall aren’t on the same episode and involved in some kind of But I’m A Cheerleader related challenge, I will riot!

As a huge fan of that movie and Lyonne, it would be beyond perfect. (It would also hopefully redeem Drag Race for all their awful challenges on All Stars 4…)

Troye Sivan

Troye Sivan is already on a high after appearing in the acclaimed film Boy Erased, getting a Golden Globe nomination for his song from the film’s soundtrack, and getting shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination. What else could a young gay artist possibly want? A spot on the judging panel of RuPaul’s Drag Race, duh!

In all honesty, the fact that Sivan is making such huge strides as a queer artist is exciting enough, but getting him on one of the hottest shows on television, which also happens to be extremely queer, is major! It just goes to show how far the LGBTQ community has come in the last few years.

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

One word: ICONIC.

Elvira, Mistress of Darkness, has been around for decades and she doesn’t look like she has aged a day. She’s a certified gay icon because of her fabulous wigs and costumes, and her dedication to all things spooky.

Elvira has been on the show before, back in season 4, but that doesn’t mean we’re not all still excited to have her back! Hopefully this is a sign that there will be some kind of spooky/haunted/goth runway theme to look forward to — not that anyone could compete with the queen herself.

Adam  Rippon

Olympian (and Dancing with the Stars winner) Adam Rippon stole our hearts during the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. The figure skater was outspoken about his sexuality and stood his ground when he refused to meet Vice President Mike Pence, who has a history of being anti-LGBTQ. Since then, he has only continued to make us fall in love with him because of his sarcasm and sass… and perfect brows, obvi.

Rippon already joined the RuPaul’s Drag Race family earlier this year when he hosted the season 11 RuVeal special with Aquaria to announce the latest batch of queens. Someone as fabulous as him, who already has a deep appreciation for sequins thanks to his years as a figure skater, will no doubt be a perfect addition to the judges table.
