Troop Zero (TBA)

The Plot: A group of girls living in Georgia in 1977 form a girl scout troop so one girl (McKenna Grace) can be recorded on NASA’s Golden Record.

A movie about little girls forming a girl scout troop so one can leave her mark on science? Sign me up! If this is Troop Beverly Hills for the space camp girls, I might be crying by the end of it.

Troop Zero comes to us from the female directing team of Bert & Bertie who helmed the 2016 feature Dance Camp, and the script is penned by Lucy Alibar who wrote the 2012 drama Beasts of the Southern Wild. This film looks to take several elements from Alibar’s previous feature, most specifically the empowerment of young women in a time and location that didn’t value them.

McKenna Grace, who wowed audiences as young Tonya Harding in I, Tonya and, most recently on Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, plays the lead, Christmas Flint, and she’s complemented by Oscar-winning actresses in Allison Janney and Viola Davis.

As someone who desperately wanted to be a part of the space program as a kid, I can’t wait to watch Grace and the gang work together to achieve something extraordinary (or at least extraordinary for them). Amazon bought this up, so look for this to be their big family offering in the future.
