Charlie’s Angels (Nov. 1)

The Plot: The plot is unknown but will follow three women who come together to fight crime under the tutelage of a mysterious person named Charlie.

In 1976 audiences were introduced to Charlie’s Angels, a television series where three beautiful women acted as spies and cops for an unknown man named Charlie who spoke to them through a speakerbox. The show was immensely popular, making a star of lead Farrah Fawcett. It’s dated and questionable today, especially regarding gender dynamics, but it still holds a strong following. In 2000 Hollywood adapted the series for the screen, turning Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz into the titular angels, giving them a sequel in 2003.

And yet it’s taken till 2019 for any iteration of Charlie’s Angels to actually be directed by a woman. Actress Elizabeth Banks directs this latest iteration and is credited as a co-screenwriter. The Angels this time around will be played by Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska, with Banks herself taking on the role of Girl Friday Bosley (a role played by Bill Murray and Bernie Mac in the two previous features).

It’s gonna be great to see what a Charlie’s Angels adaptation looks like, not just with a woman helming, but also in the era of #MeToo.
