Let’s not forgive some of the toxic males in the Harry Potter series

From Draco Malfoy to Severus Snape, there are men in the Harry Potter series that we shouldn’t just forgive because they ‘redeem’ themselves eventually.

Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger happen to be the number one relationship among Harry Potter fans and there is something important to remember about Draco Malfoy: He was very verbally abusive to Hermione.

When he would see her, he’d call her racial slurs and torment her because of the views of his parents and Lord Voldemort. Still, he said these things and even though he redeemed himself in the end, it doesn’t change what he said and did to Hermione.

The same thing goes for Severus Snape. He abused Harry verbally when he was his student all because he still had feelings for Lily Potter. And we’re supposed to just forget that he did that to Harry and cherish him since he died?

Maybe it is that we are sold that we should forgive all these men despite their wrong doings but it isn’t necessary that everyone gets a redemption arc. Especially when they were so terrible to the people we either ship them with or who end up naming their children after them (looking at you, Harry James Potter).

It’s time that we stop forgiving characters just because of our headcanons. They still are problematic and having Draco Malfoy be shipped with Hermione Granger, when he would yell racist things at her at school, isn’t exactly a great thing. Dramione isn’t terrible and Draco deserves happiness as well but we can’t just forget what he did to Hermione and her friends.
