For Project Runway fans, this week’s episode could be a fashion fantasy. Season 7 is about to put a new twist on avant-garde fashion. Will these elevated looks be innovative or will they be a sugary fantasy?

According to Lifetime, the episode synopsis states:

"Willy Wonka inspired the designers to create new inventions in fashion for an avant-garde runway; guest judges Andrew Rannells and Anna Camp."

Using the Broadway musical version of Willy Wonka as fashion inspiration, the challenge is somewhat unusual. Sometimes on Project Runway, designers have been criticized for being to “costume-like.” While this challenge is an avant-garde look, will the aspect of costume come into play?

Additionally curious, the phrase “new inventions” is used. While Willy Wonka was pure imagination, there were many delicious and delightful inventions in the story. While it is unclear, the designers might have to have a working part to the design.

Truthfully, the term “new inventions” could be a little steampunk-like. That type of fashion often combines working gadgets into the fashion. While it doesn’t necessarily directly tie to the Willy Wonka theme, it could make for a fun runway.

Since this week’s episode is an avant-garde look, it could be the week for Django to shine. He has produced some curious looks this season. Maybe those unlikely combinations could spur his look to the top.

Also, Sean Kelly could pull a few tricks out this week. In his season, he was able to make a dress go from white to colored on a raining runway. It was one of Project Runway’s most memorable looks. Could he have another invention in his kit?
