Avengers: Endgame: Russo brothers insist toy leaks don’t give anything away

The Russo brothers insist they aren’t worried about toy leaks because of inaccuracy. But, are all the toy leaks really inaccurate?

While Avengers: Endgame information is thin and far between other than the official trailers, there have been multiple toy leaks that seem to give clues into what will happen in the movie. These leaks have included images of the new black, white, and red suits that many of the Avengers might be wearing as well as hints that certain characters could be returning.

One question is always how accurate these toy leaks actually are and if they can accurately be used to predict what will happen in Endgame.

According to the directors of the film, Anthony and Joe Russo, they aren’t too worried about these toy peaks because they don’t really reveal anything and are usually wrong.

In an interview with Collider, Joe Russo said, “What’s interesting about toy leaks is that 99 percent of the time they’re not accurate. Because toys are, frankly, tailored to either old concepts or completely different concepts than what’s in the movie.”

He also explained that many of the toys could be rather misleading.

“I laugh a lot when those toy leaks show up because I’m like, well, that’s great because that’s a misdirect. Because it has nothing to do with the film.”

While it’s interesting to get comments like these from the directors, even these comments seem like they need to be taken with a grain of salt.

It’s definitely true that toys don’t always reflect what is actually going on in these movies. A leaked toy for Avengers: Infinity War included Captain America’s original shield, so fans speculated he would have it back. But, in Infinity War, Cap never actually has his old shield. Many of these toys are created for kids so they will include props and characters that might not necessarily be in the film but appeal to children.

Comicbook.com also pointed out that there was a leaked Infinity War toy that made it seem like Bruce Banner would transform into the Hulk and wear the Hulkbuster suit. While this didn’t actually happen, this leak toy was also accurate to a point. Hulk did “hulk out” at the beginning of Infinity War and the Hulkbuster suit was worn by Bruce Banner in the end, just not while he was in his Hulk state. This is a good example of how some of these leaked toys do reveal something but just not what you might think.

Overall, it seems like these toy leaks do have some truth in them, but they are unlikely to reveal hints to major plot points. There are definitely some toys that likely have very little to do with what the actual movie is about, and then there are others that probably reveal something. With all of the leaks showing these new red, white, and black suits, it seems likely that these custom changes will appear at least somewhere.

Another key thing the Russos are missing with their assessment is that while the toys usually don’t reveal any major spoilers, fans enjoy seeing these little spoilers, too. With so much secrecy surrounding Endgame, even the smallest spoiler that turns out to be true can mean something to fans.
