Draco Malfoy isn’t the villain that we all painted him out to be

Growing up, it was easy to point fingers at Draco Malfoy and call him a villain because we didn’t understand his background but now we can see, he isn’t that bad.

Look, Draco Malfoy isn’t a saint. He still did some terrible things when he was in school with Harry and his friends. He was a bully, he was mean, and none of that is excusable. That being said, when we learn more about his home life and what Draco Malfoy had to deal with on a regular basis, his actions make a little more sense.

Sure, after we see him turn his back on his family and Voldemort, we have a moment where we respect him a little but he was never really a villain. He’s that kid that you just tried to avoid in school because you knew he’d make fun of you if he was around and it was something you’d rather just ignore.

Not the kind of kid you wished anything really ill of. Of course, Harry thought he was something of pure evil because Harry always thought that about people he didn’t like but, as we see in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, they’re doing better as the years go on.

They’re not best friends but at least it isn’t as bad as it was when they were in school together. They have a mutual respect of one another that was never really there beforehand. And that shows that Draco Malfoy isn’t as bad as we think.
