A new year means we’re all getting older, and so are all the classic songs we loved during our youth. These 19 songs are officially a decade old in 2019, so get ready to feel ancient.

Every year, you see the same lists of songs coming out like clockwork right before and after New Years. “You won’t believe what songs are turning 10, 20, 30 years old this year!” It happens and it always will happen, because we all love nostalgia, and everyone is just going to have to deal with that. So of course, we had to compile our own list of songs that are hitting the big 1-0 this year.

Looking back at 2009, it really was a big year in pop music. Artists like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Beyoncé were all hitting their stride and pumping out hit after hit. It was an era of female pop stars, and we loved every minute of it. That year also brought us the debuts of artists like Kesha, Justin Bieber, and other artists that we still hear about to this day.

While it’s all fun and games to look back at all the songs we loved in our youth getting older just like we are, it’s also a huge reminder of how drastically the musical climate can change. After a decade, the charts are now being dominated by men, and mostly R&B and rap. It looks like some of our fave pop stars need to come out of hiding and show the boys how it’s done, 2009-style!
