Michelle Yeoh is coming back to Star Trek: Discovery and leading her own show

We saw her fight alongside Michael Burnham in Star Trek: Discovery but now, Michelle Yeoh is back for season 2 as well as a Philippa Georgiou spin-off show!

Philippa Georgiou is the kind of character that had us in love with her from the first moment we saw her. So when Michelle Yeoh was only on Star Trek: Discovery for a short while, many of us wish we had more of her character in our lives.

Lucky for us all, Philippa Georgiou isn’t done yet. While her character may have gotten killed at the hands of the Klingons, Georgiou still has a lot of stories to be told. From her time before she ended up with Michael Burnham to flashbacks on Star Trek: Discovery, we’re going to get quite the amount of Georgiou in our lives.

The thing is: Do flashback series really work? We know the endgame, what happens to Georgiou when she and Michael take on the Klingons — so will a show work? Yes. It definitely will. Having someone like Michelle Yeoh leading a sci-fi show is a huge deal and with a character like Philippa Georgiou? It’s going to be a wonderful time.

Yeoh, at 54, would be a woman of color and a woman in her fifties leading a Star Trek show. It is almost unheard of for women to lead shows in the sci-fi genre, let alone a woman of color and a woman in her fifties. Pair that with what we know about Georgiou already and the fan favorite aspect of her character, we’re in for quite the ride with this show.

Michelle Yeoh has already had quite the year with the success of Star Trek: Discovery and her role in Crazy Rich Asians and she doesn’t seem to be stopping in 2019.

Variety reported on the show, and Yeoh had quite the brilliant response to their question about the show.

"I’m so excited to continue telling these rich Star Trek stories. Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes – certainly I believe it will go ‘where no WOMAN has ever gone before!’"

We can’t wait to see where the Star Trek franchise takes Philippa Georgiou!
