Harry Potter and the curse of his summer vacations

Now that we’re in the dead of winter, let’s look at Harry Potter and the terrible summer vacations he had to share at the Dursleys home every year.

Harry Potter had to go back home to the Dursleys every summer no matter what. Even if he didn’t want to go back, he still had to and throughout those years, Harry had to return to their misery because they were still his legal guardians.

So, now that Harry is very much out of the Dursleys grasp, does he ever talk to his cousin, at least? We saw in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that Harry and Dudley were starting to understand each other. After years of being pitted against each other because of Petunia and Vernon.

The two boys never really had a chance because of Harry’s aunt and uncle so now, that they’re older and clearly had started to see each other differently, would Harry ever contact Dudley again? Those summers back at the Dursleys were terrible for Harry, the opposite of what he wanted.

And it made him a kid who didn’t want to do good things for his cousin but he did anyway because that’s just who Harry Potter is. He saved Dudley from the dementors, got his family out of harms way from Voldemort, and worked towards getting them safe, even if they wouldn’t do the same for him.

At the end of the day, we know that Harry is a good person, someone who is willing to do what is necessary for those close to him at that even includes the Dursleys.
