Harry Potter star Gary Oldman to play Winston Churchill once again

Gary Oldman won an Oscar for his portrayal as Winston Churchill and the former Harry Potter actor will play the British Prime Minister once again.
Apparently once wasn’t enough for Gary Oldman. The actor, who played Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise, will once again play the role of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. A role that saw him win an Oscar in Darkest Hour.
The film, which came to theatres in 2017, saw Oldman win the award for Best Actor. Darkest Hour was a film centered on British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the days that led up to the declarations of war against Nazi Germany.

Focusing on the trials and tribulations that faced Churchill in making this decision. Darkest Hour received nothing but praise the moment it arrived in theatres. And not only for Gary Oldman’s Oscar-winning performance.
Whether Oldman playing the role of Churchill for a second time will see him pick up another Oscar is a question for another day.
However, while Oldman’s performance will no doubt be an Oscar-worthy one. It is highly doubtful he will even be nominated for one, never mind winning one. The performance is likely to be an on-stage one, and therefore not a contender for the high profile award.

Oldman explained in an interview that he had begun work on playing Churchill again for an onstage performance. A performance that Oldman is considering turning into a two-parter, which is based on the 1947 short story written by the Prime Minister.
"“I’ve been working with Randolph [Churchill’s great-grandson] and I’ve adapted, with their kind permission, the short story The Dream,”“I’ve been talking about maybe doing it as a sort of two-hander onstage.”"
Work has only just begun. So details, such as a release date and whether it will make it to TV or not, are sparse. As soon we know more. We’ll let you know.
