Into the Spider-Verse producer promises some quirky characters for the sequel

If you thought Into the Spider-Verse exhausted all of the Spider-Man characters, guess again. Fans are hoping the producer can promise some more fan favorites for the sequel.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse truly featured a cast of exuberant characters, with more Spider-people we’ve seen on one screen than probably… ever. The movie featured Miles Morales, two modern-day Peter Parkers, Peni Parker, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir and even Spider-Man 2099 and the 1967 cartoon Spider-Man. That’s a lot, but there are so many other characters in the Spider-Verse who didn’t get their due in the movie.

But if you’re a fan who missed out on your favorite version of Spider-Man in the movie, there’s good news. Spider-Verse producer Phil Lord is promising that some more fan favorites can make it into the sequel. As ScreenRant points out, on Tuesday, Lord answered a few fan inquiries on Twitter about which characters would make it into the sequel — and we could have a lot to look forward to.

One fan wanted to see if they would include the off-beat Japanese Spider-Man from the ’70s, and Lord had a promising response. If the movie could cross $200 million, then it’d be a sure bet that that Spidey could make it into the sequel.

After the holiday weekend, Into the Spider-Verse pulled in about $104 million domestically, so they’re a little over halfway there. But that wasn’t the only character Lord teased they could bring on. The producer replied to a few other accounts, one requesting a Latina Spider-Girl, and another requesting the meme Spidey, Spooder-Man. Let’s just say… one of these we want a lot more than the other. (It’s the Spider-Girl.)

Without fail, Twitter had some fun proposing other characters to enter the Spider-Verse on screen. So many so that Lord couldn’t get to answering them all.

One of the suggestions might have actually been accounted for during the production of the movie, with one fan hopeful for Australian Spider-Man. In response to that, Spider-Verse’s co-director and co-writer Rodney Rothman replied “I died on that hill,” possibly meaning Australian Spider-Man was an axed idea for the first movie.

With so many suggestions, it’s clear to see that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 could have a great roster of Spider-people on its hands. Even if a few of those suggested characters only come up in cameos or post-credit scenes (looking at you, Spooder-Man), it still shows that the creators are in touch with fans and know exactly what to deliver. So here’s to hoping that Into the Spider-Verse reaches its goal, because it’s definitely a spectacular movie worth all the accolades (and all the Spider-people).
