J.K. Rowling hinted Credence surprise before Fantastic Beasts franchise began

Turns out J.K. Rowling hinted at the Credence surprise some time ago. As in before the Fantastic Beasts franchise began back in 2016.

Before we get down to business. This post will discuss the ending to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. So if you haven’t seen the movie yet you might want to hit the back button. Otherwise, you’re going to get a major spoiler about Credence as we discuss how J.K. Rowling hinted at his twist before the Fantastic Beasts franchise had even begun.

So we all know that J.K. Rowling is the best in the business when it comes to playing the long game in storytelling. We all witnessed it with Harry Potter when something tiny, and what seemed completely insignificant at the time, would occur in one book, and then, three or four books later would have a much bigger meaning. And that trend is clearly continuing with Fantastic Beasts.

More from Harry Potter

We all know how Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald ended. Credence was revealed as the long lost brother of Albus Dumbledore, Aurelius Dumbledore. A major head-scratching moment for many Potterheads because the timeline is a bit off, as in not possible off, but there are some theories that could make this all work.

But we won’t go into the whole, is he, isn’t he, right now. Let’s just stick with how Rowling hinted at Aurelius before Fantastic Beasts even came out.

Back in October 2016, so before Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them even premiered, J.K. Rowling updated her website by uploading a new banner image. Hypable managed to track down the image and you can see it includes a book about the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

Now at the time Rowling did this, I don’t think any of us would have made the connection that an Aurelius would be showing up. Mainly because none us expected a surprise Dumbledore to be appearing. But looking back, it’s a typical thing of J.K. Rowling to do. Drop something in plain sight that means something huge in the future, but nothing right now.

You have to wonder if there are any other hidden clues out there that we have not yet discovered. Maybe some of the answers that Rowling has explained will happen in Fantastic Beasts 3.

Next. Credence Barebone is not Dumbledore’s brother, but his son. dark
